| 14 College Survival Tips
|
- ORGANIZATION:
Get organized. Keep a daily planner. Mark
all important dates (exams, homework, readings, etc.). Prioritize.
- FAMILIARITY:
Get familiar with the campus. Go visit each
of these during the first week of class: Library, Bookstore, Cafeteria,
Professor's Offices, College Security, Advisors, Registration, Study Rooms,
Recreation/Student Center, etc.
- ATTENDANCE:
Attend class. Be on time - even a little
early. It gives you time to get settled down, relax and get mentally ready.
- PREPARATION:
Keep up to date on your studies. Turn work
in on time. Read ahead of lecture. Know what's coming up in class. Refer to your
schedule daily.
- THE LIBRARY:
Use the library. Study, read, meditate,
relax. Browse the shelves. Use the computers. If that's not enough, remember -
the most comfortable chairs on campus are probably in the library!
- STUDY:
Study every day - give yourself one day of rest
though. Study more efficiently. Seek to explain, not just recite. Work with
tutors if you need.

Yoga as we all know it is aimed to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit.
Yogis view that the mind and the body are one, and that if it is given the right
tools and taken to the right environment, it can find harmony and heal itself.
Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of your
body's posture, alignment and patterns of movement. It makes the body more
flexible and helps you relax even in the midst of a stress stricken environment.
This is one of the foremost reasons why people want to start Practicing Yoga -
to feel fitter, be more energetic, be happier and peaceful.

By William Kates - August 11, 2006
Traffic surveillance cameras set up along two of Syracuse, New York's busiest
highways may help doctors save lives.
The cameras will provide emergency room doctors at Upstate Hospital with

them treat accident victims better and more quickly, said Dr. John McCabe, a

You Forgot to Fill That Out…. or Did You?
Debra K. Udey
Vice President, Risk
Management
OMS National Insurance Company
Have you ever given a patient forms to fill out - registration, health history, etc., and had the forms returned almost empty? Your first impulse would be to tell the patient he or she had forgotten to fill them out. But here's something to consider. The reason a patient may not fill out the forms is because he or she can't read them well enough to do it. It is well known that people who can't read take great steps to hide that fact from others, as they may be ashamed of their low literacy skills.
